Wrapping up the year

Strengthening mental health and wellbeing with My Mind Check

Written by Hilary Tucker (Clinical Product Manager, My Mind Check), 17 November 2025

As the year draws to a close, school leaders and educators are taking stock, reflecting on achievements, challenges and the collective efforts that have supported student learning and wellbeing. This period of reflection is more than an administrative milestone; it’s an opportunity to ensure that student mental health and wellbeing remain at the heart of planning for the year ahead.

Proudly, My Mind Check supports schools to do just that. By giving students a structured, simple, evidence-based way to share how they’re feeling. It provides schools with an ability to make data-informed decisions that effectively guide wellbeing strategies, target student support and strengthen meaningful connections across the school community.

Reflecting on the year that was

End-of-year reflection offers valuable insights into what has worked well for your school, and where further focus may be needed. Gathering this information helps shape strategies for the coming year and strengthens a whole-school approach to wellbeing. Schools using My Mind Check are currently considering:

  • how students have grown socially, emotionally and academically this year
  • the effectiveness of their wellbeing initiatives and the noticeable impact on students
  • areas where students may need additional care or an alternative approach.

These reflections not only celebrate the progress made but also lay the groundwork for stronger support systems in the year ahead.

By reviewing My Mind Check student outcomes alongside valuable academic, attendance and contextual information, schools have built a fuller picture of each student’s experience, and have identified opportunities for support. These schools report being well placed for the coming year.

Supporting mental health and wellbeing through transition

For many students, the end of the school year brings mixed emotions. Pride and excitement for wonderful personal successes, both big and small. But there are also challenges that can be stressful, such as changing routines and the uncertainty of what’s next. Proactively supporting these scenarios can help students finish well and start strong next year.

Our schools actively embed wellbeing practices into end-of-year activities that help sustain a culture of care that continues beyond the classroom. Conducting Term 4 check-ins has helped guide:

  • targeted, meaningful conversations with individual students
  • transition programs and strategies that address specific social and emotional needs
  • communication with families about supporting wellbeing over the break.

My Mind Check helps schools identify students who may benefit from extra encouragement, transition planning and support. By embedding My Mind Check into end-of-year routines, schools can take a proactive, data-informed approach to help ensure that every student finishes the year feeling supported and connected.

Planning ahead with My Mind Check

By incorporating My Mind Check into your planning, schools can:

  • identify trends in student wellbeing across year levels, with a frequency that suits your school
  • inform early identification of individual student needs and strengths
  • strengthen staff confidence in understanding and responding to student needs.

These insights empower schools to take a proactive, evidence-based approach to student mental health, ensuring that wellbeing remains visible, measurable and central to student success. Term 4 is not just about closing one chapter. It’s about laying the foundations for 2026.

By completing My Mind Check student check-ins during Term 4, schools can finish the year with meaningful student information, celebrate growth and enter 2026 with a clearer understanding of how to best support every student.
